[edit]As more items listed are place names rather than persons' names, I've changed the notice at the bottom to use Template:Geodis rather than Template:Hndis. Bazza 14:21, 12 April 2006 (UTC) to je sranje
Chelsea should link to Chelsea F.C.
[edit]IMO Chelsea should redirect to Chelsea FC with a link at the top to go to the disambiguation page
- Since when has a football club been the primary use of a place name over and above the actual city or area it is named after?! --kingboyk (talk) 09:47, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
Re:I disagree. The word 'Chelsea' amounts to more than a football club. Thus, it shouldn't take priority.
I agree, and by democracy, I will put it up there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tk TommyKim (talk • contribs) 15:41, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Disambiguation
[edit]Chelsea should direct the viewer to the page for the London borough of Chelsea, for two very good reasons:
- Firstly, that's the standard approach for other places which are London boroughs (c.f. Greenwich, Westminister).
- Secondly, everything on this list is named, directly or indirectly, after the London borough of Chelsea, which I think should give it primacy.
Re: Again, while the area of London's use of Chelsea is considerably prominent, there are many other unrelated but highly relevant uses for the word, as shown by other such areas in America and/or organizations that are perhaps arguably more known for the use of Chelsea. As such, the area of London shouldn't take priority. 195.92.40.49 13:56, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Most, if not all, of the other Chelseas do derive from the one in London. But that does not give the name primacy. To have prime usage, the unqualified name must be clearly understood by the English speaking world to mean one thing. Even if it were not for the clear ambiguity between Chelsea F.C. and Chelsea, London, there are other suggestions available that this isn't the case. For example Bill and Hilary Clinton named their daughter after the song Chelsea Mornings, which is itself named after the Manhattan district of Chelsea; this is (probably) named after Chelsea Pottery, which is named after Chelsea in London. Clearly a fair number of different unqualified usages there. -- Chris j wood (talk) 16:14, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Origin
[edit]A user posted this heading with no text under it but with an edit summary I'll reproduce here to be nice: Given the proliferation of the name/term, could someone add more info on the origen of the name/term? Largoplazo (talk) 10:14, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

– In line with the approach adopted for Liverpool and Tottenham, I propose moving this page to Chelsea (disambiguation) and renaming Chelsea, London to Chelsea, as the London district is the primary topic. ~2025-41128-45 (talk) 10:52, 16 December 2025 (UTC) — Relisting. - Not sure about this...the three common meanings at the top of the current DAB page must all be equally significant. (The place in London, the football club in London, and the given name.) Thanks, 1isall (he/him) (talk | contribs) 13:12, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- Also, you didn't include Chelsea, London in the nomination. WP:EXPLICIT. I might add it for you. Thanks, 1isall (he/him) (talk | contribs) 13:14, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- I just added it for you, but I still oppose this proposal because you didn't provide proof that the London district is primary. Thanks, 1isall (he/him) (talk | contribs) 14:51, 16 December 2025 (UTC)

- Weak oppose apples and oranges with respect to Tottenham as there are many places called "Chelsea" and it's a common given name. The London one has 10,541 views and it's football club has 178,418 but the Manhattan one has 5,509, the Massachusetts one has 2,205, the Michigan one has 1,644, the English band has 1,494, the American band has 1,075 and the given name has 1,039[]. - Support. Clear primary topic by long-term significance. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:24, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- Inclined to oppose. The only time 'Chelsea' pops into wider awareness on this side of the pond is in relation to the football club (or occasionally the Manhattan neighborhood and the eponymous hotel). older ≠ wiser 16:00, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose Chelsea, Manhattan is an equivalent primary topic. Don't think any research was done here at all. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 09:30, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose, ambiguous. 162 etc. (talk) 18:14, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
- Weak oppose. That's a very long list on the dab page. But "area of London" should be listed before the FC. Moscow Mule (talk) 22:41, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
