The poem, "The Mighty Runner," by Edwin Arlington Robinson humorously treats the loss of a footrace by a man named Charmus. Whether he had the historical Charmus in mind, or whether he just picked the name at random, I have been unable to learn, but it is an amusing poem, IMO.
