Charmander and rain
[edit]In the article, it says, "in the rain, a Charmander's life is not especially endangered.". But in one Pokemon episode, Ash has to shelter Charmander from the rain, and they act like it's really serious. Which one's right?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.182.178.220 (talk) 01:25, 7 May 2007 (UTC).
- Whatever the games say - the game and anime are separate canons. -Jeske (v^_^v) 04:01, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I wouldn't say that. I mean, are Star Wars movies different canon from the games? 67.182.178.220 17:22, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- The Pokemon anime is a special case because, if you haven't noticed, the games radically differ from the anime in several aspects, and fans recognize two separate canons - the "official" one for the games, and the anime canons. See Pokémon (anime). -Jeske (v^_^v) 18:37, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
I guess you're right. I mean, in the show Pikachu can KO a Golem with Thunder, whereas in the game, a Pikachu can't even hurt a Golem with Thunder. Thanks for clearing that up. Sincerely,67.182.178.220 00:07, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Anime addition
[edit]I added a bit more detail on how ash meets up with charmander in the series. Plus i enhanced the photo due to it being really washed out its was practicly white.danieljackson 03:34, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- The picture is the original artwork, so as such it stays. Doing otherwise would likely create some fair-use problems. – mcy1008 (talk) 04:30, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

- Before I review this, several of the sources used existed prior to an AFD discussion which resulted in the article being merged. Can you show me the sources you feel justify recreating it? Also pinging the AFD nominator @Kung Fu Man: for his imput Olliefant (she/her) 20:37, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
In terms of the three best sources: in terms of sources that are about Charmander in particular. There is also this source, which talks about a significant moment with Charmander, while this source, despite being about the trio, offers adequate significant coverage. There is also science-focused websites discussing Charmander's potential design influences, with this source specifically about a "real-life Charmander" (while not reception, it's been established that articles like these contribute to notability). While some of the sources were featured in the pre-AfD version of the article, it should be noted that the reception section is significantly larger in this new version than the original. I also saw fit to ensure that weak sources used to serve as reception, such as Ash Dekirk merely describing it, Mark Jacobson's general comment about Pokemon evolution, and several other articles that provide minimal reception for it were excised from the new version. It should be noted too that the AfD was created at a time before KFM and I (among others) had found newer sources that touch upon these subjects, which allowed us to find more sources than we could in 2023. As a result, we discovered Crunchyroll News and began exploring Japanese language websites for sources, which in Charmander's case proved fruitful. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 22:01, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
- Alright! I'll have comments posted shortly Olliefant (she/her) 06:22, 24 January 2026 (UTC)
- I should also note that I added Charizard's image to the reception section, so you should review its rationale to say whether you feel it's strong enough. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 21:42, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]- Image needs alt text
- Done
- Delink "TV series"
- Done
- "respective evolutionary line, including" -> "respective evolutionary line, which includes"
- Fixed
Concept and design
[edit]- Link Bulbasaur and Squirtle
- Done
- "Its name has had multiple origins" reword this as it seems to imply all orgins are acurate when the text specially notes the contradiction
- Fixed
Appearances
[edit]- "It appears in the Pokémon Trading Card Game" this feels a bit repetative
- Tried to fix by saying "also appears"; since it's not a video game product, I felt it shouldn't be discussed in the same sentence as the video games.
- "including with a card based on Pokémon Snap that, combined with Bulbasaur and Squirtle's respective Snap cards, sold for $230,000" this is a little unclear
- Clarified
- Delink "TV series"
- Done
- [McDonald's] [Happy Meal] is an MOS:SOB violation
- Fixed
Critical reception
[edit]- Clarify that the Nintendo Life stuff was from a video
- Done
- Also since it's from a ranking, maybe say what tier it ranked
- I considered that, but I felt that the ranking names being so silly sounding would read weird
- "John considered it his favorite" should be "Cartwright
- Fixed
- "Multiple moments in the various Pokémon anime series have been highlighted as significant" rewrite this
- Fixed
- Link "Griffin McElroy"
- Fixed
- Link "Pokémon Origins"
- I opted to not link it due to it being linked in Appearances
- Also "Pokémon Origins" is considered a TV special, not a full series
- Fixed
References
[edit]- Dates are consistently formatted
- Can you make the links for website consistent? Most do but some don't
- Fixed
- Ref 45, says streets were named after Pokémon in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, the source says it was in Henderson, Nevada. Which while in the Las Vegas metro, is a distinct city from Las Vegas.
