Suggestion: Write as simply as possible
[edit]Instead of using the mathematicians' jargon of a "2-subgroup", it is a far, far, far better idea in Wikipedia to write in terms that more people are likely to know.
Like "subgroup of index 2", if that is what is meant, or "Sylow 2-subgroup" if that is what is meant. ~2026-15500-14 (talk) 20:32, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- Well, I've added a definition of "2-subgroup". However, I'm not convinced that many people whose knowledge of the subject goes far enough for them to understand "resembles a group of Lie type over a field of characteristic 2" will need "2-subgroup" to be explained; I would have thought that "2-subgroup" is a far more elementary concept than "group of Lie type". I also wouldn't think that "2-subgroup" is a lot less known than "Sylow 2-subgroup", but maybe I'm wrong. JBW (talk) 17:37, 4 June 2026 (UTC)
