Translation
[edit]I'm a little worried about the current translation of "phaesalus". It seems to me that "yacht" has more grand connotations than "little boat" might, and considering Catullus' affinity for diminutives in his epic parodies, "yacht" doesn't seem appropriate for the translation. Suggest changing it to "little boat". Any complaints? --Blisters 02:56, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
I have never heard of a wind called Thracias, though there may be one. But even if there is, Catullus would never have inserted its name among territorial names. "Thracia" must be taken as the accusative of "Thracia", the territory, so I have changed the translation accordingly. All other translators seem to agree.Seadowns (talk) 11:48, 14 March 2017 (UTC)
tenses in indirect statement
[edit]In line 2, the indirect statement's verb is fuisse -- thus it should happen temporally before the main verb. This could be fixed by changing it to either
said that it had been the fastest
or
says that it was the fastest
.
