Fair use rationale for Image:AmgirlCD.jpg

[edit]

Image:AmgirlCD.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 17:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Birth date

[edit]

Several secondary, published, independent reliable sources support a birth date of [redacted] If other independent reliable sources support a different date, we would typically report both dates. Per WP:BLPPRIMARY, we cannot use primary sources, such as official birth records, for this purpose. - SummerPhD (talk) 01:30, 19 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Too much repetition of 'she wrote' and not enough specifics

[edit]

The paragraph she wrote this.. she wrote that should be re written as A list of songs composed by Cathy Dennis: Then the songs and artists. See the page for the song writer Diane Warren for an example. It's just amateurly written here I'm sorry. The example on the page shows how to present it correctly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.100.54.203 (talk) 22:00, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth and other claims

[edit]

I note that this source is given to cite the date of birth, but when I accessed the link, I couldn't find it. I am re-reverting it out per this exemption, against my longstanding self-adherence to 1RR on all pages.

In case it's not obvious, my main driver for this is WP:BLPSOURCES and if somebody produces a BLP-compliant source and it is inline cited in the article and the source verifies the claim given, then that will happily resolve the issue for me.

Your thoughts, please Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:23, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I just checked the source. It says:
Cathy Dennis
A former dance diva with slick, soulful vocals, Cathy Dennis enjoyed a handful of pop hits during the early '90s before transforming herself into one of the U.K.'s most successful songwriters. Born in… [Read Full Biography]
Active: 1980s - 2020s
Born: [redacted] in Norwich, Norfolk, England
Genre: Pop/Rock
Styles: Club/Dance, Dance-Pop, Euro-Dance
Also Known As: Catherine Roseanne Dennis
If you click on the "Read Full Biography" link, that section does not mention a birth date. --Guy Macon (talk) 13:44, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
The AllMusic page states the birth date and birthplace. The accuracy of this is supported by James Masterson's Chartwatch UK which talks about the 1989 single "C'Mon and Get My Love" on page 142. It says that the 20-year-old Dennis was from Norwich. The 2010 book 1,000 UK Number One Hits says on page 1370, "Norwich-born singer Cathy Dennis." The 2009 book Spice Girls Revisited, in talking about the career of Simon Fuller, says "the Norwich-born singer Cathy Dennis" on one page, and "Cathy Dennis, the Norwich-born singer" on another. The 2007 book Joel Whitburn Presents Billboard Top Adult Songs, 1961-2006 says on page 76, "Cathy Dennis. Born on [redacted] in Norwich, Norfolk, England." I don't see a problem with relaying to the reader this information. Binksternet (talk) 14:12, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
WP:DOB says "With identity theft a serious ongoing concern, many people regard their full names and dates of birth as private. Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object to the details being made public. If a subject complains about our inclusion of their date of birth, or the person is borderline notable, err on the side of caution and simply list the year, provided that there is a reliable source for it."
The subject has complained about our inclusion of their date of birth, so we I think should simply list the year. I see no benefit to the reader in knowing Cathy Dennis's birthday. --Guy Macon (talk) 15:48, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
A fair approach. I tend to only mention the year in "early life" and "death" sections of bio articles as a matter of course. There seems little point in listing the full dates outside of the lead, since it's likely in an infobox too. Seasider53 (talk) 16:52, 25 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I agree. I think it's a matter of basic human decency. Once we know that the subject of a BLP objects to having their birthday posted, we need a really good reason to include it. The year? a lot of people are interested in how old a celebrity is (especially if they are very young or very old) so I am usually OK with the year, but am also OK with leaving it out. --Guy Macon (talk) 21:27, 18 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
