"pelta"
[edit]A Pelta was a specific, leather-faced shield with crescent shape, famous throught eh peltasts. The general term for "shield" was "aspis". It would be quite unimpressive if the engine's projectile could merely penetrate a pelta, sicne such shields were weak compared to a bronze-faced Aspis of a classical Hoplite.
