The accuracy of the distribution map

In the distribution map for the Casuarina genus it does not include the areas of the Top End. However the type species casuarina equisetifoliais a prominant plant species in coastal regions of Australia's Top End. The distribution map for the family Casuarinaceae is also different to this map.

Is this an oversight or am I missing something? Ndureau (talk) 00:35, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'll ask at wikiproject plants what should be done about that, particularly whether the areas where Casuarina species are invasive should be included. It strikes me as inappropriate in any case to use a range map from a 1978 publication when the genus was radically rearranged in 1982. Nadiatalent (talk) 08:13, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please use botanical terms

Flowering trees have fruit, not cones. Gymnosperms have cones. Flowers are not male and female. They are staminate and pistillate. In Angiosperms the male and female parts are egg producing and sperm producing monoploids. Flowers are diploid. Except that, according to the description, most species of Casaurina are dioecious, having male and female individuals with distinct flowers, with the flowers of the latter group developing into hard, woody bracketed fruits that strongly resemble the cones of gymnosperms.
