Religion Column

Hello -

I've removed the "religion" column in the clients section. I cannot see a reason why the religion of his clients is important information for the article, but am of course willing to hear anyone out, especially the article (& column)'s creator, @إيان. SSR07 (talk) 21:56, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

This is how it appears in the scholarly source. To speak very generally, at the time and in the area where this architect was active, religion was how society was organized. It's relevant, telling, and important information. إيان (talk) 01:48, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I see that now. But, I feel as though that might be better represented with a sentence or two in the article's body, instead of in the chart. The article is a stub anyways and requires significant work, but a fix might explain the architectural style, briefly touch on the existing cultural norms (which would require a separate source) and then mention the diversity. A temporary solution might look like this, for instance:

"von Diebitsch did significant work in the Mudejar style, whose appeal transcended the religious beliefs of his clients"

Then, maybe with an example or two one could remove the religion column and especially the occupation column. While there is evidence of religious diversity, the more I've looked at it the more I realize the occupation column adds nothing as it is neither standard in prominent lists, nor is it useful (for instance in showing religious diversity - all of the clients listed are aristocrats in some form). Further, the list itself is not particularly useful in identifying his major works. It is added as an annex in the original source to show religious diversity - not necessarily his most important works - not to mention that copying it word-for-word might be copyright infringement, though of that I am less sure.

Of course the occupation column is useful. The list isn't copied word-for-word other than where it can't really be helped, and the source is cited in each row; besides, a simple list like this wouldn't pass the threshold of originality. I don't see a reason to deviate from the scholarly source here and provide the reader with less information.

If you'd like to expand the article, I suggest starting with identifying useful and relevant scholarly sources and going from there. إيان (talk) 13:06, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
