About C B Newham (me)
[edit]Thanks to whoever was responsible for starting an article about me. There are a number of things which are incorrect and missing and I'd appreciate someone editing the bio. You can find a biography of me on my project's website:
https://www.parishchurches.org/bio
This will give you the correct date of birth and place (I was not born in Perth), plus other relevant facts not found in the references which have been used. There's also find a complete bibliography. I'm rather surprised that "Country Church Monuments" is not mentioned in the current article - sadly it seems to be a book that isn't very well known, despite being published by Penguin Random House.
John Stabb's books on Devon churches were never an inspiration for my photography project. Indeed, I didn't know of Stabb's work until 2007 when I lived in Plymouth for a time.
My date of admission to the Society of Antiquaries was 7 Dec 2015.

Another little-known fact: I am somewhat infamous as the author of the very first "puzzle" levels for a 3D FPS ("Doom", 1993/4), "Daemon", "Barrel" and "Scream". The idea came about because of my interest in Infocom's "Zork" series of text adventure games:

and I was the first person to create a waypoint system for "AI" deathmatch bots in a 3D FPS ("Quake", 1996), designed and written just before I came to the UK, between July and September 1996, several months before Steve Polge ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Polge ) - that Guinness World Record should actually be mine!

- Thanks for your comments, I've updated the article with information from your biography and I corrected the errors you mentioned.
- The Doom stuff is really cool, though I've avoided adding it for now as it would likely fail to meet the criteria of some Wikipedia policies (WP:RS, WP:TRIVIA) based on those sources. If I find anything more substantial to cite this, I'll add it in the future.
- Thanks again though for your comments, and for your work through DAE; let me know if there are any other issues with the article as-is. Plasmium (talk) 12:15, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
