Vermont Reference Removed

The information about Vermont was wrong, so I corrected it.

Vermont ceased to be part of the Province/State of New York in January 1777, when Vermonters affirmatively seceded from New York. The first Vermont Constitution was ratified in July 1777, and the Commonwealth of Vermont was an independent albeit internationlaly unrecognised republic.

Negotiations to join the Province of Quebec - of which the northern half of Vermont was part in 1777 - came to nought after Lord North's government fell when he lost a vote of confidence in the House of Commons (March, 1782) and was forced to resign.

Subsequent negotiations for Vermont to join the United States were thwarted by New York's refusal to recognise Vermont as anything but renegade New York territory (much like the argument China puts forward about Taiwan). New York finally relented in 1790.
