original use hard to find

[edit]

Since/if the original use was 'cable-laid rope' shouldn't we put that at the top rather than hide it in See other ? - Rod57 (talk) 11:46, 26 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Revert

[edit]

@Discospinster: Can you please explain this revert? You reverted edits both by me and by another editor with the comment "unhelpful/wrong edits", and you tagged the revert as a minor edit. The changes you reverted were:

  • which -> that in a context where "that" is arguably the more correct word
  • force -> forces. I might agree with you on this one
  • removal of Flexible shaft, which is not ambiguous with "cable".
  • removal of Cable Internet access, which is not ambiguous with "cable".
  • removal of Carle (disambiguation) from See also. This term is not likely to be confused with "cable". The link is not relevant to this dab page.

@Srleffler: I meant to revert only Ateetzel9's edits but didn't notice the edits in between. My apologies. ... discospinster talk 15:43, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cable (math)

[edit]

@Srleffler, you (understandably) reverted my linking to "cable knot". I actually came across this when trying to look up what a "cable" was, specifically regarding this paper: The $(2,1)$-cable of the figure-eight knot is not smoothly slice. Throughout the body they use "cable" as a noun without "knot", as in, "While such cables are generally believed...". Although it seems that "cable knot" may be somewhat more standard than just "cable", it did lead me to looking up "cable" on this disambig page without the suffix "knot" in an attempt to find out what they were talking about. I did add a note to Satellite knot#Basic families noting that it is sometimes simply called a "cable". Is it alright with you if I revert your revert and add the link? I added it back, formatted differently per WP:MOSDAB--Srleffler (talk) 04:15, 26 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

[edit]

What the F is this article about?! I came here to read about (electrical) cables and expected something about their purpose and their construction. At the very least, this article should be a disambiguation about cables. The least thing I expected was "Cable Management" and some weird "source code".
