Lead sentence needs to be clearer

I know this is an extremely complex topic, but per MOS:FIRST, the lead sentence needs to be written in language accessible to the nonspecialist reader. Is there any way to keep that opening line accurate without rendering it incomprehensible to someone that doesn't know what "de Sitter Space" is?
