I saw a Talk discussion elsewhere where an editor confirmed adding a recent image to this article (File:Buttercross Westgate Mansfield.jpg), captioned as "Buttercross Monument in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire", from the original, annotated by the uploader as Buttercross Monument). As it is image/caption only, I have chosen not to add {{disputed-inline}}.
A local-to-Mansfield social media discussion raised by a published local historian has highlighted that there is no historic evidence for Buttercross ever being used. The object pictured is annotated as Crosson period Ordnance Survey mapping, also on the same map can be seen OLD MARKET PLACE (in upper case). Unfortunately, the better-resolution map from town centre compilation is missing from the archive. There was in Mansfield a Butter Market, to the south west of the newer Market Place.
