Bushu not Bisu

[edit]

The festival is called bushu. In accepted dimasa dialect for literature which is hasao dialect, uses bushu. Only in demra dialect its called bisu, demra dialect is not accepted in literature. Mishimao (talk) 06:42, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Various news outlet and sources point to "Busu", including government page [1]. Why this could happen? maybe its a dialect variant. But Busu seem to be more common in use. J.L (talk). 15:48, 9 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Dimasa has no official script, hence no official spellings but the correct pronunciation is Bushu, shu not su. It just so happen media outlets to take up spellings like that from places like haflong town club raji, there are many localities and villages, each of them have an institution called raji which host their own locality's Bushu. In the past years everytime they would put up a banner where the spelling was Bushu. Recently some outsider came and took in charge of the hosting and made it bisu which many people disliked. Later on someone made it busu. In most villages and club, they write the spelling which is Bushu, which matches the actual pronunciation. The other dialect variant is Bisu which is used by Demra(dimasas of hojai),they are a small minority and are also Assamese influenced in culture. And besu from hawar(cachar district) side. The other variants are all used by minority speakers, the largest variant are the hasao dialect speakers which pronunces it as bushu. In short some people writing it as busu are those who aren't that well educated and not aware of how things are pronounced, if I recall back then everyone put it as Bushu. Another thing, if you hear how people say it from YouTube or videos. They all say shu not su. If you look at Daniel Langthasa who is a politician who studied from english medium school. His most recent post of Bushu festival is from 30th jan which says "Bushu Dima" https://www.facebook.com/reel/1424345259054036/
Only those who haven't received formal education or old people who studied in times when school ran in bangla & Assamese medium with no mastery over English language, write it as "busu" and some people like me try to correct it, giving the proper spelling and pronunciation. Wikipedia underdogs come in to dictate us over our culture. This page name was originally Bushu dima, in 2021 shymal bodosa changed it to bisu then busu dima. Why can't we keep the original name of this page which was made by a dimasa by the name "Bushu Dima" Mishimao (talk) 05:09, 13 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
