[edit]Buddy Kaye taught a class at UCLA during the 80' or 90's, I believe, and I attended. I remember his focus of the class was, "If you want to be successful in the music industry, write country."
That was the largest group of successful and independent recording artists at the time, and probably still is.
He played the audition recording of, "Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue" as an example of one song "making it" for one single writer, written and played by Richard Leigh. He had submitted to multiple studios before it clicked and was introduced by Crystal Gayle.
Buddy Kaye was really a mellow and easy to talk to guy.
