Buckwheat as a threat

I was reverted with the edit summary "sorry but that is grossly undue for the lead: article concerns a species, a crop, its cuisine ... US opinion is a minor aspect of a sub-aspect, not lead material"

I seriously question the neutrality of calling it "grossly undue" to accurately report that because buckwheat is a serious allergen it absolutely cannot be tolerated by crop growers in the US. Calling it "opinion" is borderline insulting. Further more, dismissing the US viewpoint on English Wikipedia, is... something.

I request someone else than User:Chiswick Chap to review this. Since Chiswick Chap has recently nominated this page as a Good Article, it is especially important for them to take a step back in order to avoid suspicions of gatekeeping and article ownership sentiments. ~2026-17275-51 (talk) 10:48, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Sure, keep calm, let's see what folks have to say. The immediate point was that the material (on "economic threat") was not a principal focus of the article, so it should not have gone in the lead. As for "opinion", it's what you wrote: the text you inserted actually said "local varieties ... are considered", i.e. some people's opinion. Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:01, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is a worldwide encyclopedia for the English language. Although I live in the US, I think that unless buckwheat is a similar problem for grain growers elsewhere in the world that particular wording is not appropriate for the lede and I agree with Chiswick Chap's reverting of the edit. If there are sources that show this is also an issue in other major grain growing areas such as Australia, Argentina, etc, then it should go in the lede. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 18:36, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
