computer storage?

[edit]

WRT "is a file storage format that combines a file system based on the copy-on-write..." Seems odd to call it a computer storage format. It's a file system, right? It's not a way to store computers ;) This seems cleaner: "is a file system based on the copy-on-write..." Stevebroshar (talk) 12:22, 26 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think you might have missed the word "computer" in your first quote. Anyway, it seems to me that Btrfs serves the functions of both a file system and a logical volume manager, as the lede says. Therefore it's more than just a file system. Your quotes didn't capture that second part, so it's not a fair rewording here on the talk page. — voidxor 15:39, 27 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Meaning of online/offline in context of btrfs features

[edit]

I'm learning on this topic and think a reference to explain online/offline at Btrfs#Features would be helpful. I was able to find this one, is it the correct one?

Online and offline#File systems

I'm new here, is this an appropriate topic/question? Thanks! OCuLink-2 (talk) 17:52, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@OCuLink-2: Welcome to Wikipedia! I think your question is appropriate because you were asking in the context of improving a gap in this article. By contrast, if you had been asking about the topic of the article purely for yourself, and not with the aim of improving the encyclopedia, then that kind of irrelevant discussion is technically not allowed per WP:NOTFORUM.
I followed up by adding the link you suggested to the first occurrence of the word "online" in the article. Hopefully that will make the meaning clearer. Thank you for pointing it out! — voidxor 19:18, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Glad it helped improve the article. Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback, that's very helpful! OCuLink-2 (talk) 19:48, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
