Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bromine test --taweethaも (talk) 20:44, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@DMacks: per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bromine test please see if I am going into the right direction. It is a new argument. The "test" has multiple meanings (and can be a disambiguation page) but the "value" has only one meaning and shall remain as an article. If you confirm, I will polish them more and do the same for iodine articles. --taweethaも (talk) 10:54, 10 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Disambiguation pages or MOS:DABNOENTRY - no matter we look at qualitative/quantitative aspects or test for addition or substitution reactions, it will link to the same page... with one exception if bromine test means test for bromine, this would link elsewhere. So, I simply make this page a redirect to bromine number instead. --taweethaも (talk) 07:54, 11 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Just coming back from vacation...I'm not sure what thing I'm actually supposed to look at. But it's possibly moot, given the AFD is closed? Or else is it about how to procede with the merger (and redirects)? The unification at "bromine number" was not my preference, and I think it makes a confusing article to have it called "number" but be >>50% about something other than quantification. I did not expect this discussion to proceed through the "Articles for deletion" process, involving multiple editors with a variety of comments and perspectives. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the discussion.

The current outcome is not what I had hoped for, but I believe the situation is an improvement over where we started. My preference would be for the two closely related articles to be merged, or at least explicitly linked to one another. This would help readers find accurate information and reduce the risk of editors developing content in one article without realizing that similar material already exists in the other. Ideally, I would also prefer the iodine and bromine articles to use consistent terminology—either "value" or "number" in both cases—but that is a secondary concern.

@DMacks: The following questions remain:

  • Can Bromine test be a WP:DAB rather than a redirect? The discussion can still continue below.
  • The question for iodine will go to Talk:Iodine test.
