Bone (answer)

In English myelosupression is used to mean a mild, moderate or severe bone marrow inhibition. In other languages, i.e. Spanish, this same idea is expressed as "mielodepresión". Hence some ESP>ENG translations where "myelodepression" is used -when it shouldn't: mielodepresión (ESP) = myelosuppression (ENG).

In English myeloablation is used to mean a severe form of myelosuppression (either a complete or a severe bone marrow inhibition). In other languages, i.e. Spanish, this idea is expressed as "mielosupresión". Hence the confusion between false friends ENG myelosuppression and (ESP/other languages) mielosupresión.

I believe the actual Wiki entry for myelosuppression is a bit confusing as it seems to inadequately mix both ideas, myelosupression and myeloablation.

My own recommendation here:

Bone marrow suppression / Myelosuppression: Mild, moderate or severe bone marrow inhibition. Linked to ESP "mielodepresión" -not to "mielosupresión"
