[edit]Why this particular picture of Farrell? Why not something more...representative and biographical?
LeVeillé (talk) 01:36, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- I agree, can we please adjust this. He was such an iconic figure and reducing him merely to this picture is not representative of his personality. Maria Hodge (talk) 17:03, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
Hi I would like to know if the Bobby Farrell page can be updated with his new single 'Bamboo Song' released August 2009
- Hi. We can only make edits if we have suitable reliable sources. In this case, I was only able to find this page in Czech, which only says that the solo album will come out 'in the summer'. Therefore, I cannot make this change right now. If you can provide an appropriate source, please reinstate your request. Thanks, Chzz ► 15:58, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Establishing notability
[edit]The current article doesn't establish notability of the subject. A Google news archive search equally fails to do so. If the subject meets any of the criteria, please explain how here before removing the tag again. Bongomatic 17:08, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Boney M were one of the leading groups of their time, surely all its members are notable. You also appear to be abusing the minor flag by adding it to edits like this. PatGallacher (talk) 17:18, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Per WP:MUSIC, for a musician to be notable by being in groups, he must be a member of at least two independently notable ensembles. Bongomatic 17:20, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- In addition, per its documentation, the {{recent death}} template is inapplicable for this article at present. Bongomatic 17:22, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
I think the notability guidelines should be intepreted with a degree of common sense. However I have added ITN reporting his death, which suggests notability. Sometimes a group establishes a degree of prominence such that all its members are inherently notable, even if they never did anything else. Would the members of e.g. Abba or The Rolling Stones have to have performed with another group? PatGallacher (talk) 17:32, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- You can tell that the members of the Rolling Stones and Abba are independently notable because they are extensively covered in reliable sources. The way you can tell that a group is so significant that its members are notable is by the notability of its members, not the other way around. Bongomatic 19:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Bongomatic, are you seriously doubting the notability of Farrell? See Google book search results. "The Boney M group is led by Bobby Farrell with Maizie Williams, Liz Mitchell and Marcia..." One of the books says. Salih (talk) 17:35, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- And what does this mean? Salih (talk) 17:42, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Seems that notability is demonstrated. Bongomatic 19:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- I unprotected the article on a trial basis. The BLP concerns from 2008 no longer have any bearing and the article could benefit from improvement based on current news articles and obituaries. If it becomes a vandalism target (semi-)protection should be reinstated. ~ trialsanderrors (talk) 09:21, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
Date of Death Incorrect
[edit]The Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/8232749/Boney-M-frontman-Bobby-Farrell-died-on-same-day-as-Rasputin.html) reports that his date of death was the 29th, not the 30th. (He was found dead in the morning, but apparently is thought to have died the night before.) They also note the coincidence that Grigori Rasputin, the subject of one of his biggest hits, also died on December 29. The BBC/America news broadcast on 12/30 at 7 PM EST also indicated Wednesday as the date of death, although it said there were breathing problems indicated before and after the show, although some reports only mention problems after the show. 71.254.253.7 (talk) 00:56, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- And Rasputin also died in St. Petersburg, and they were both perceived as sex idols, Rasputin in real life, Farrell via his show persona (I don't know about him in his personal life). __meco (talk) 01:13, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
To complicate matters further, Rasputin died on the night of 29/30 December, but there may also be an element of doubt about which side of midnight he died, given conflicting accounts of his death, and he may have been still alive when thrown into the water. However this date of Rasputin's death is by the Julian Calendar, by the Gregorian calendar I think he died on the night of 9/10 January. PatGallacher (talk) 12:11, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- I think the main cause of heat failure In December S.Pb. is cold clothes, cold shoes, and cold bed. Nothing spiritistic.
If you not have minimum wool contact full day you must decrease activities. S.Pb. – this is special hard region look like cosmos. It is need special equipment. Imho. Zgrad (talk) 21:36, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Singer
[edit]Although Bobby Farrell did not provide vocals for Boney M.'s records, he did sing live on some occasions and then formed his own group, 'Bobby Farrell's Boney M.'. He did sing in professional settings and was paid for it, thus meeting the requirements for being listed as a singer. Israell (talk) 07:45, 24 November 2019 (UTC)
Suggested Factual Corrections – Bobby Farrell Article
[edit]Hello,
I’m a relative of Bobby Farrell and I understand Wikipedia’s policies around conflict of interest, neutrality, and verifiability. I am not editing the article directly, but I’d like to request corrections to factual inaccuracies and misclassifications currently present. I believe these edits are in line with Wikipedia’s goal of accuracy and respect for public figures.
Here are my suggested factual corrections for your review:
- Genre Classification: The article currently states that Boney M was an R&B group. This is factually incorrect. Boney M was known for Euro-Caribbean disco, reggae, and pop, not R&B.
- Spouse’s Name: The name of Bobby Farrell’s wife is incorrect. Her correct full birth name is Yasmina Saban.
- Date of Birth (Daughter): It currently says Bobby’s daughter was born in 1983. This is not correct — she was born in 1993.
- Quote Attribution: A quote attributed to his daughter regarding Frank Farian is not sourced and is factually incorrect. It does not reflect the family’s stance and we respectfully request its removal, in accordance with Wikipedia’s Biographies of Living Persons (BLP) policy.
- Image Request: The current photo used does not represent Bobby Farrell accurately or respectfully. If helpful, I can suggest or upload a higher-quality, publicly licensed image to Wikimedia Commons for consideration.
Thank you for your time and commitment to factual integrity. I’m happy to assist with sourcing or clarification if needed. Maria Hodge (talk) 16:09, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Proof Boney M Genre is incorrect: Boney M. and Here: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/boney-m/2357209
- Spouse name is Saban and not Shaban: here: https://web.archive.org/web/20150722024832/http://www.yugopapir.com/2015/06/makedonska-svadba-decenije-bobby.html
- Daughter’s birth date incorrect it's 1993: https://www.ask-oracle.com/birth-chart/q26255683/ Maria Hodge (talk) 16:51, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- I’ve added sourced information to improve factual accuracy, but it keeps being reverted. The sources I’m using (See above) which are reliable and meet Wikipedia’s standards.
- I’d like to kindly ask for a consensus on this point before any further reverts are made. I’m happy to collaborate and follow Wikipedia’s rules, just aiming to ensure the article reflects verifiable truth! Thank you! Maria Hodge (talk) 17:29, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- I pointed out to you on your talk page that you have a COI; that the first two times, you provided no sources and removed sourced material; and only in the last go-around did you include sources. But the information you're seeking to have replaced is also sourced. Put all those reasons together, and this should be a group discussion. Largoplazo (talk) 17:39, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- I agree with Maria, these sources are legit and BoneyM is not R&B and never was. 2001:1C00:5281:2C00:7C8F:7698:BC4C:77A0 (talk) 17:54, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- How do we know that you're not agreeing with yourself? –Skywatcher68 (talk) 20:43, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- This is the first time I've ever heard Boney M classified as "R&B." Disco or Eurodisco, yes. Funk, pop, calypso or reggae? Certainly to a lesser degree, but by no stretch of the imagination are they R&B. Most importantly, the source used makes no mention of R&B. I'll replace this unsourced genre with a sourced one for disco. No comment on the other changes. Valenciano (talk) 15:16, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- Incidentally, there's a problem with the image. It says it's him with Boney M in 2006. That definitely doesn't look like him in 2006 (when he'd aged) and more like the original incarnation, so likely 1978-1979. He also last performed with the group in 1989, so I'll remove the year. Valenciano (talk) 15:27, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- The picture is not an around 1978 one. The lady behind him is not Marcia, Maizie or Liz and also not a member of the chorus who supported live shows. His hair was in later years fake. And his chest looks here more thin, skinny than in the top years of Boney M. His youngest daughter was born in the beginning of the eighties like also his youngest son. He had 3 more children. An older son was on his funeral. He deserves indeed a better image/picture. No one is official The King of Disco like The Queen of Disco (Donna Summer) . But if there is it is Farrell or Nile Rogers. Sometimes Bobby is called The King of Disco. Musicworldvision (talk) 20:13, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- The music of Boney M.? It is EURO-DISCO . Based on European pop, Funk & Soul, Reggae, usually packed in a commercial Sound and often with a disco beat. But usually not real Funk, Soul or Reggae. Only a song like Never Change Lovers in The Middle of the night is closed to Soul and Dancing in the Streets close to Funk. Real pop? Also only sometimes like the song Ride to Agadir. Musicworldvision (talk) 20:19, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- Eurodisco would need a source. As I said, there's no indication what year the photo was taken so we should just leave out mention of the year. Valenciano (talk) 08:26, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
