Books are self-published
[edit]His books are self-published. Abductive (talk) 22:43, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's published by AK Press. Not clear whether it would count as self-published. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 23:59, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, first I searched amazon and found (audio)books by Ward Churchill, Chomsky. Then I found that we have an article on it. Nevard (talk) 04:16, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps Abductive can say why he believes they're self-published. If it makes a difference, I've seen his books for sale in mainstream book stores, and to the best of my knowledge, he's well-known within this area. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 16:37, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- "Torres is also a general partner for Tofu Hound Press, a small publishing company that releases a few books per year relating to veganism and animal rights." Tofu Hound Press published his first book. The other publisher is a "collective". Abductive (talk) 17:13, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- His books are held at 76 and 173 libraries, respectively. Abductive (talk) 17:17, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- (ec) I don't know whether the first would make it "self-published." It would if it were very small e.g. him and his wife. If there are other professional people, then not. For example, if Rupert Murdoch published something via News International, we wouldn't call it self-published. As for the second book, and it's the second that has made his name, not self-published just because it's a workers' cooperative. That's just a management and financial set-up. It doesn't necessarily impact on the editing, legal checking and so on, which is what's lacking in WP:SPS. But again, it would depend to some extent on the size.

- The thing to do here is to look for reliable sources who discuss him. If they exist, he's notable; if they don't, he's not. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 17:19, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not really arguing that he is not notable, just that my prod tag was not insane. Abductive (talk) 17:25, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

- You're right: it wasn't insane. :) (Seriously, it was clearly in good faith.) SlimVirgin talk|contribs 17:41, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
