The Washington State office of State Land Commissioner was dominated by Republicans from 1889 (the year of statehood) until the election of FDR. After 1933 the office was monopolized by the Democratic Party for nearly half a century. From 1933-1981 the SLC's (all Democrats) were:

A.C. Martin, 1933-1941
Jack Taylor, 1941-1945
Otto A. Case, 1945-1949
Jack Taylor, 1949-1953
Otto A. Case, 1953-1957
Bert Cole, 1957-1981
