Pronunciation of "Makela"

Apparently Makela, a surname of Finnish origin, is pronounced "MAH... kah-lah", the stress falling on the first syllable. The "e" in "Makela", at least as heard in the United States, seems more or less pronounced "ah". What I mean is that, as far as I know, American people with this surname pronounce it that way themselves. In the 1991 documentary "A Giant Leap for Dinosaurs", less than two minutes within the beginning, the narrator says it that way too, and referring to Bob Makela precisely (just listen, I drop you a YouTube link for that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt0xhoGWZk4). Could somebody bring some help so that we show the IPA notation to the reader? Otherwise, we have an example of the IPA notation for the Finnish composer Klaus Mäkelä, which is quite close to the pronunciation found as common use in the USA. This other YouTube video (please click here) is in Finnish, and the pronunciation of Klaus Mäkelä sounds, as expected, close to the pronunciation of the narrator in "A Giant Leap for Dinosaurs" (YouTube link above).
