Bioware cleaning house

[edit]

Progressive writers are getting axed at Bioware post-Veilguard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Dragon_Age:_The_Veilguard#Writers_fired? 92.220.74.144 (talk) 14:38, 31 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Semi-done Reliable sources aren't reporting the layoffs as due to "progressive writers" but instead due to the underperformance of both EA Sports FC 25 & Dragon Age: The Veilguard leading EA to lower its annual revenue forecast. I've added the forecast update (see Reuters) & that BioWare restructure/downsize included Dragon Age team layoffs (see PC Gamer & IGN). Sariel Xilo (talk) 19:15, 31 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
You're right. The "progressive writers" was taken from Ann Lemay's post on Bluesky.
She writes:
"I was a writer at BioWare for 5 years (2011-2016). I leaned a lot during that time from exceptional folx in many disciplines, but also specifically from my fellow writers & our amazing editors, on both the ME & DA brands.
Today, not a single one of those writers & editors remains employed there."
"Folx" is, as far as I know, a term used in certeain communities, especially online, that means people who identify transgender or non-binary.
In this bluesky-post she points out that this group (Folx) have been removed from Bioware.
Not something that can be used in an article, but might relevant for the discussion page if this is not the end of this story. 92.220.74.144 (talk) 14:53, 2 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
I recognize that a lot of people are impassioned about this topic, but that's WP:OR, and not really relevant. Not now, not ever. Shooterwalker (talk) 20:12, 3 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Concern Regarding Neutrality and Proportionality in the Veilguard Reception Section

[edit]

I think the current Dragon Age: The Veilguard article presents a somewhat one-sided view of the game's reception.

The article gives a lot of weight to the positive critic reviews and Steam launch, while much of the negative player response is attributed to "review bombing." That seems too broad and overlooks legitimate criticism of the writing, dialogue, characters, player choice, and how the game compares with earlier Dragon Age titles.

The bigger issue is the treatment of the game's commercial performance. EA reported around 1.5 million players, which was nearly half of what EA expected. That doesn't mean 1.5 million copies were sold, but it is still clear evidence that the game fell well short of EA's expectations.

I'm not suggesting the article call Veilguard a "flop." I think it should simply present the full picture: strong reviews from critics and a successful Steam launch, but significantly lower-than-expected overall engagement and a much more mixed player reception.
