Requested move 24 September 2026

[edit]

Billy Dick → William John Dick – Name that the article's contents use, making no mention of "Billy Dick" being a nickname. | One Reaction was here. Got a complaint? 16:09, 24 September 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. Jeffrey34555 (talk) 16:55, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. The problems described above (if they are problems at all) are with the article content, not withthe article title. Although, I am not sure that there's any issue that needs fixing at all. Our MOS advises to generally not include nicknames in ledes when the article title already uses the nickname and the nickname is a common diminutive form of the full name. The rationale being, if the subject is named William in the lede sentence, but the article is at Bill (or Billy, whatever), it can be presumed that the subject is known by the nickname form without the lede needing to include "Billy" in quotation marks. See Bill Clinton for example. We may want to add "Billy" to the infobox, however, but that's not related to the RM. HierophantOfOmens (talk) 22:42, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
