The name of Bill Kerr holds some wonderful memories for me. I am 78 now, living in Enfield, but I have vivid memories of early 40's and 50's - Blitz and all that when one of my greatest escapes was going to the local pictures and music halls. It was one evening at the Finsbury Park Empire (London) when one of the acts was a largely unknown Bill Kerr, but of all the artists I've seen over the years I still vividly recall his act.. I was a teenager dating a girl and going to the Empire was something special. Bill Kerr with a dead-pan expression reminded us that "He only had four minutes". Looking round the theatre he tells us what a wonderful place it is, THREE balconies, full of people but he says, there are only two thin pillars holding everything up. "Now, I don't want to worry you....." And so the patter went on.

"It was sunny when you came in, but "I don't wanna worry you...". He then told us about going to his uncle's funeral, laid out in his best suit. "First time ever he'd been all dressed up and nowhere to go...." And so Bill's four minutes had us in stitches, and I am so glad he went to become a great success on TV and in many films. I believe Bill Kerr is still alive and I wonder how old now. I'd love Bill to see this message, and trust he his keeping well.

Regards, John Harvey

Date of birth

[edit]

Wikipedia has a date of birth of VX109798 (V151140, V211645) William Henry KERR (the subject person) as 10 Jun 1922. This date is used in IMDB and other sources. However I believe his date of birth maybe 18 Jan 1924 (drawn from his enlistment papers held at the Australian Archives). I cannot get into the ADB to see what date is listed there and to get to his death notice featured in The West Australian on August 31, 2014.His date of death is apparently correct on August 31, 2014.
