Spelling mistake
[edit]"at its peak, the unit hosted 1,236 people, 70 per cent of them women, children and elderly; no one was turned away. About 150 people engaged in armed operations." this is under formation and should be "percent" SolomonW2011 (talk) 17:32, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Improving: Internal conflict section
[edit]over-reliance on biased memoirs, lack of broader context
The current "Internal conflict" subsection under "Operations" presents a single incident (Kessler's challenge to Tuvia Bielski, Soviet probe, and execution) in isolation, relying heavily on primary partisan accounts without inline citations or balancing perspectives. This risks WP:NPOV violation by framing it as straightforward "rebellion suppression" amid unmentioned camp stresses like food shortages and Soviet pressures. It also lacks WP:RS adherence, as secondary analyses (e.g., Tec's Defiance, USHMM) discuss leadership tensions more broadly but aren't cited inline.[web:1][web:2]
Proposed changes (per WP:MoS for logical structure and WP:BRD):
- Relocate and rename: Move to a new subsection under "Relations with Soviet partisans" as Leadership tensions to provide context on external influences.
- Add context and balance: Open with 1-2 sentences on otriad strains (e.g., "Resource shortages and oversight strained the Bielski group"), then detail the Kessler incident neutrally: "In 1944, Israel Kessler and others accused Bielski of withholding valuables, prompting a Soviet investigation that cleared him; Bielski then tried and executed Kessler for insubordination per witness accounts."
- Inline citations and NPOV tag: Add reliable sources for the incident, for context, and note historiographical debate: "Views differ on whether this reflected necessary discipline or authoritarianism."
- Minor copyedits: Neutralize loaded phrasing (e.g., "rebellion" → "challenge"); trim to 4-5 sentences for WP:PROSE brevity.
This enhances verifiability (WP:V), neutrality, and flow without adding OR. Thoughts or tweaks before bolding?
