Audio quality

[edit]

There seem to be no (or no apparent) loudness issues on this release's mix, which would suggest, even though the issue was downplayed at the time, that an effort was made to avoid such issues in the future. Audio issues like the loudness issue, along with the snare drum sound on "St. Anger", are the two only major audio controversies in recent Metallica history, the earliest being the lack of bass guitar on "And Justice for All...". Worth a mention? 188.63.52.123 (talk) 05:14, 7 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think this mix is better than Death Magnetic's mix. It has a warmer texture. And the drums were too loud on Death Magnetic. Beyond Magnetic is perfect. Production-wise, it might even be my favorite Metallica album.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.248.90.204 (talk) 00:43, 1 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Comments

[edit]
  • For starters, the sourcing is a little rough.
  • A lot are missing authors
  • AllMusic is formatted incorrectly (and should be deleted from external links since it's in use here)
  • I'm unsure if "metal injection" is considered reliable
  • Stuff like "www.rollingstone.com. Rolling Stone." and "consequence.net. Consequence of Sound." needs to be fixed
  • The chart histories are missing access dates
  • missing archives

I will stop here for now. This is definitely salvageable but the sourcing needs to be fixed before I continue. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 16:23, 25 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'll get to filling out stuff like missing authors before too long, but to start off, Metal Injection is considered reliable at WP:A/S. λ NegativeMP1 17:50, 25 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I've gotten all of the above resolved except for, again, adding archives to stuff like the chart templates. I'm honestly not sure if I even remember how to add archives to those. λ NegativeMP1 02:42, 26 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Alright good deal, thanks. I've never known had to archive the chart templates so I've always ignored those, just the websites and such. I'll start investigating my book sources and adding today. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 14:26, 26 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Zmbro: FYI, I just purchased the "All the Songs" book for myself, so I can try to do some expansion myself if so needed. The only drawback is I got the ebook from Google Play which has drastically different page numbers for things (for instance, the page number you used for citing information on "Lux Æterna (Metallica song)" is for "Shoot Me Again" on my end). λ NegativeMP1 02:20, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oh cool! I can help with the actual page numbers since I got the print edition. :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 14:16, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Turns out that the book actually doesn't have that much information on Beyond Magnetic itself, or even it's songs (the main thing I was hoping for expansion of was the "Music" section). So all I think I got out of it for this page at least is just the statement "Due to the songs being abandoned prior to the final mixing of Death Magnetic, they are far less compressed; a common criticism of Death Magnetic was its production.", which also gives more context for the reviews section for what it's worth. But yeah, I think information for this EP is just barren in general. You might have something somewhere that could go into more detail but I'm pretty sure this is what I've got. λ NegativeMP1 22:12, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I got another book that could possibly help. I'll keep ya posted. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 00:41, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
NegativeMP1 Sorry for the delay on this. Had a really busy fourth of July weekend. I checked my other Metallica books and they say nothing about this EP, which is unfortunate. Maybe some other newer books might have some stuff but it looks like all we got is Clerc. I'll see what he says and go over the article on more time and start the proper review. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 18:33, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
No worries, thanks for still reviewing it and adding the information you could! I'll get to the comments within a couple of days, hopefully tomorrow. λ NegativeMP1 05:26, 8 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Proper review

  • Copyvio detector looks good at only 12.3%.
  • Add alt text to infobox image
  • "they are far less compressed;" I would link Dynamic range compression here
  • ""Hell and Back" has been described as Load-sounding alternative rock," described by...
  • "He felt that any of the songs on the EP could have easily been part of" → "He felt that any of the songs could have easily been part of"
  • Metal Forces has an actual author. I would note him inline like you do the rest of the sources.
  • "Echoing similar thoughts were Anderson and Young. The former of which" → "Echoing similar thoughts were Anderson and Young. The former" since you have ", while the latter" later on.
  • Add headings to the chart tables.

Rest of the prose looks good. That should be all from me. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 19:46, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

I've resolved all of the above issues. λ NegativeMP1 23:19, 8 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
