[edit]The Birds wiki is missing a cultural category that has been practiced since the late 1970s (competitive birding), and more recently, accentuated by apps like Merlin Bird ID (which allows a user to identify bird species, and has been downloaded 30 million times across the world). "Birds" are indeed a cultural topic - and this Wiki represents one person who has been active in conservation and competitive birding. There are only 11,000 bird species in the world, and this person has observed 8,500 species, a significantly difficult feat for those who are 'in the know'. WIKIMEDIA already features a post on Peter Kaeastner, the current "record holder" who achieved this status roughly one year ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Kaestner, and Kenn Kaufmann, a conservationist and world birder who is well known for his contributions to ornithology. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenn_Kaufman — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.101.199.129 (talk) 21:49, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
