Sample 2 bronze medal --oops!

[edit]

"all the teams knocked out by the gold medal winner, including the losing finalist, should compete in another knockout competition for the silver medal, then all the teams knocked out by the gold and silver medallists would compete in a third competition for the bronze."

Probably the boldface clause should be extended thus: all the teams knocked out by the gold and silver medallists and not by any other team. Thus the bronze medal bracket includes silver bracket loser USA (beaten by Britain and Belgium) and does not include silver bracket loser Spain (beaten by Britain and USA).

But the bronze bracket should include Switzerland instead of Czechoslovakia, Greece, and Italy. Should be Switzerland, Netherlands, Sweden (three losers to Belgium only) and USA (loser to Britain and Belgium).

Thus our "Sample 2" does not illustrate the Bergvall system (as we describe it, which is a reasonable system); it's a gross misfit. --P64 (talk) 16:07, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
