Question about introduction
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I work at the Berger Action Fund and I have a question about a specific claim in the introduction.
Right now the second sentence of the second paragraph states the following: "Because of the way it is registered under the U.S. tax code, the Berger Action Fund is allowed to spend money supporting and opposing political candidates."
The verb phrase "is allowed to" is a somewhat unusual choice, as it essentially introduces a hypothetical activity. There is no evidence (in this Wikipedia article or elsewhere) that Berger has ever spent money supporting or opposing political candidates. The cited source for this claim is an AP article which includes a statement from Berger and Wyss noting that the organizations have "established strict policies prohibiting their funds from being used for get-out-the-vote activities, voter registration, or supporting or opposing candidates or political parties.”
I understand that this is a statement attributed to Berger/Wyss and not verified information from the AP reporter. But if the introduction of this Wikipedia article is going to include a hypothetical claim, it would be nice to include the same clarification that the cited source provides. So maybe something like "Because of the way it is registered under the U.S. tax code, the Berger Action Fund is allowed to spend money supporting and opposing political candidates. Berger states that it has policies against such spending for candidates or parties."
I hope an editor watching this page can review this request. Happy to field any questions. NZ for Berger (talk) 19:16, 21 July 2025 (UTC)
Done I've amended the sentence to include information about the policy and that it's never been done. Encoded Talk 💬 21:50, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
