Edit request from article subject

[edit]

Disclosure: I am Ben Balter, the subject of this article. Per WP:COI I am not editing the article directly and am requesting these changes here instead. All are factual corrections rather than additions.

1. Lead is out of date (present tense, now inaccurate). The article states I currently work at GitHub as their evangelist to government agencies. That role ended years ago and I no longer work at GitHub. The cited sources (2013–2014) support only what was true then.

Change: Ben Balter is a United States-based lawyer who works for GitHub as their "evangelist" to government agencies.
To: Ben Balter is a United States-based lawyer and technologist. He worked at GitHub from 2013, initially as the company's evangelist to government agencies.

2. Citation date error. Reference 3 (Tuutti, Federal Computer Week, "Newly minted Presidential Innovations Fellows announced") is dated 23 August 2014, but the source URL and content indicate 23 August 2012. Please correct the date.

3. Unnecessary scare quotes. In the sentence about the 2012 fellowship, "Presidential Innovation Fellow" appears in quotation marks. Per MOS:SCAREQUOTES these should be removed — it is the program's actual title.

4. Link rot. References 2, 3 and 4 (TechRepublic, and two Federal Computer Week articles) appear to be dead links following site restructuring. Could an editor run these through the Internet Archive and add |archive-url= and |archive-date= parameters?

5. Lower priority — trivial content. The second sentence (Balter has said that he works in a field where demand for data and access to repositories is sharply increasing in all sectors) is an offhand remark from a 2014 trade article and conveys little encyclopedic information. I raise this tentatively given my conflict of interest — I recognise a subject asking to remove content merits extra scrutiny, and I'll defer entirely to uninvolved editors.

Thanks for taking a look. Benbalter (talk) 01:08, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
