Distance fallen
[edit]I've amended the fallen-distance section to include the factors of system slack and rope stretch, both of which can be substantial amounts - easily a meter of more for the former in lead belaying, and up to 3 or so meters of the latter if you are at the far end of a 50m rope away from your belayer. There probably needs to be a nuanced treatment of this that takes in all the many different permuations: high vs low falls, thin vs. thick ropes, top roping vs. lead, tight belay vs. soft catch, distance of belayer from the wall... — The Anome (talk) 16:18, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
