IPNI as source for species list

[edit]

I see that IPNI is given as the source for the species list. This is rarely if ever a good idea. IPNI contains all the species which have been published in a genus. It may indicate which ones are nomenclatural synonyms (based on the same type), but tells you nothing about taxonomic synonyms (names which are based on different types, but which are considered to be the same species based on DNA evidence, morphology, etc). The best thing to do would be to find a monograph or other such source which lists the species (I see that the Madagascar catalog at efloras.org, which is not yet done, has not finished this genus or Machaerina). Failing that, perhaps we should revert to the species list before this edit? (although I don't know what source that one is from either; it isn't cited).
