On all modern maps I can find this appears to be spelled Blakeley. The web page for Blakeley AL has a mention of a civil war battle that appears to be this one. Is there a good way to clarify this? --PitOfBabel (talk) 18:38, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

The second "e" in "Blakeley" is a modern addition. The original town and the fort were called "Blakely" without the "e." — 69.85.245.9 (talk) 15:01, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

I'm not so sure about this one either. I've seen maps from 1865 say "Blakely" but some places like here say the town was founded by a man named Josiah Blakeley and even the state park uses the extra E spelling when talking about the history. I haven't seen any mention to the different spellings specifically so I don't know "officially". Lalaithan (talk) 02:18, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

I am not so sure about this. I have a book from 1928 which uses the additional "e." The founder of the town also spells it with the extra "e." Can the ip provide sourcing?
