Movement Habits

Rays and skates actually has no great differences just that skates is an older version of the rays? I believe skates are a term given to Rajiformes?? While stingrays are given to Myliobatiformes?? Or the suborder under such as Myliobatoidei or family under these like Rajidae.. The term is really funky similar to fish. But what is a fact is that Myliobatiformes are an evolved order of Rajiformes which became apparent these days. 2Theotheo1 (talk) 01:04, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

How could you think that! Sting rays are completly harmless if you know how to deal with them! I and many others have always wanted to swim with stingrays. the barb

i was curious, once stingray defends itself by using the bar to 'sting' someone, what happens to barb? does it breaks off, and regrowns or what?

Can someone explain?

I’ve just edited this article about the synonym part where there used to be a Myliobatoidea word on it. I saw that it was a synonym of a different term Myliobatoidei. I thought it was pretty off so I decided to just delete it but I’m now wondering if the Ray research history has Myliobatoidei used as the whole division back in the day?? Or something similar?? I love Batoid fishes and I want to know more about it. 2Theotheo1 (talk) 00:41, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

I can't rule it out, but doesn't seem likely that Myliobatoidei has been used for all rays. Names based on Raja (used by Linnaeus) seem a more likely alternative than those based on Myliobatis.

I brought the book itself actually.. I haven’t read the whole thing since I’m quite busy and I’m not too well with long paragraphs. I’m not talking about any reference, sorry if it was hard to tell. On this article before I edited it, it had Myliobatoidea as a synonym for Batomorphi which I found not true since Myliobatoidea is instead a synonym of Myliobatoidei. I just randomly wondered if the old book used ‘stingray’ aka ‘Myliobatoidei’ as the whole devision at one point. And about your comment, I agree!! Because Myliobatiformes didn’t use to exist, it was apart of Rajiformes. But yeah, I just found it weird and wanted to know how it got on the ‘synonym’ part. 2Theotheo1 (talk) 11:56, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
