The position of Base Commander is normally given to the highest ranking officer of the highest echelon tenet unit at a particular US Army post. Example: The base commander of Fort Bragg is the Commander, XVIII Airborne Corps. The position alluded to in the present article is the Commander, US Army Garrison, Fort _____________. This is the person who runs the daily operations of the base with the personnel also assigned to the Garrison. Upon deployment of some or all of the tenet units (it can vary depending on the base size), the Garrison Commander MAY become the Base Commander if needed. There are some bases where the Garrison Commander is also the Base Commander because the Garrison is the only unit present. Example: Garrison Commander, Camp Grayling is also the Base Commander. I recommend that this article be deleted as it confuses these two positions. This article tries to make the position comparable to an assigned position when in truth the highest ranking officer physically at the base is the de facto base commander.
