"Barman of CACHAR" is a separate ethnic group and barman kacharis and barman kacharis.

Have witnessed people like @Chaipauwho keep linking barman kachari with dimasas. I understand that those doing so are confused. At least please admit that. Barman kachari live in bodoland, next to rajbongshi and koch. Barman kachari speak barman thar language. Barman-"armour wearer" is a hindu title for those under the kshtriya fold. Debbarma(dev barman) from tripura is one such example. The Debbarma community from tripura are hindu converts from noatia,koloi and jamatia tribe.

In 18th century,few dimasas migrated to CACHAR plains and came under the hindu kshtriya fold. Prior to this, the community of koch mandai (barman kachari) existed way before and were under the koch kingdom. To distinguish between the two, the government of Assam specially and officially has designated the dimasa barman converts as "Barman of CACHAR" ST plains,they have dimasa clans and speak dimasa language not barman thar. They live in CACHAR. Barman kacharis live in BTR, speak barman thar and are ethnically part of greater koch ethnicity. If you're still deniable, open and read out the official ST classification from assam. Barman kachari and barman of CACHAR are two distinct communities. They have no relationship and no connection. It's like mistaking singh surname bearers from North india for manipuris,singh(lion) title is for kshtriyas,they are not the same. Here the barman kachari(koch mandai) are part of koch descendants and live in BTR, next to rajbongshis and boros, and barman of cachar(dimasa)are a subsection of dimasas who live more than 900km and live next to zeliangrongs and manipuris.
