Comments

• There's very little wrong with this interesting article, so my comments will be brief.

• In 'Etymology', the towers are said to have many names, but none are translated. It appears from the rough-and-ready charms of Google translate that all in fact have meanings, though "Radio tower" for "bangsatap" does seem a bit surprising. I suggest we should have proper dictionary translations for all the names.
  • I think these are difficult to translate. They are in the Jeju language, for which Google translate does not work. Some of these terms don't appear to be in a major Jeju dictionary and I do not have sources for what they mean. I suspect many of them are just terms for this tower. For the "radio tower" thing you mention, that's because "bangsa" can mean both "emission/radiation" and "protect". • I suppose "there are a large variety" should really be "is", but I appreciate the semi-plurality of the noun here.

Images

• All images are on Commons, and are plausibly licensed, though I never saw a KOGL before.

• The images are appropriately captioned. Personally I'd say "in vertical section" rather than "viewed from the side" but it's fine as it is.
  • I think it's viewed from the side, and not a vertical cross section. If it was cross section you'd see more small bits of rubble in middle. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 16:21, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
• I wonder if the diagram is correct to imply that stones on the surface of a bangsatap can be small rounded bits of rubble, or even small triangular flakes balanced on the surface. That would make them very vulnerable to falling out. The photos (such as they are) seem to show largish blocks at the surface, which would make more sense. (And if I were building such a thing, I'd pack the center with small rubble, not large blocks.) In the circumstances, the diagram ought to have a source, but all it says is "own work".
  • The roundish small bits of rubble are accurate; see related page doldam, which has images of similar structures (I've also spent a lot of time in Jeju, saw these kinds of things every day).
