Full name of city

[edit]

I know the reason for a shortened version of the name is for readability, but can we add the full ceremonial name somewhere in the article? I'm thinking it could be in its own section or somewhere in the introductory paragraph. It is a world record, after all.

Update: I have read through the article, and I found that the full name is included in the "Name" section. Just a silly mistake. If you're reading this, you can ignore my previous message. Inactive000 (talk) 00:28, 21 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Edits to the "Multiple image ..." at the top of the article

[edit]

@F4T4L1TyVincenT: You did 5 edits to this article which I reverted. The edits had no explanation in the "Edit summary". The result of the edits was that all daylight images were replaced by evening/night images. That is why I did my revert with "This article is not called Bangkok at night!" as "Edit summary". After my revert, you reverted my revert, again with no explanation in the "Edit summary" (but you started a discussion on my personal talk page). To prevent the start of an edit war I start this discussion on the talk page of this article. I think removing all daylight images from the "Multiple image ..." is not the way it should be. Besides that, there are some (nearly) duplicates in the article: file:Bangkok Night Wikimedia Commons.jpg is present twice, and file:0008871 - Krung Thep Bridge 001.jpg has a nearly duplicate. Maybe Paul_012, who is a frequent contributor to this article, can give some advice. FredTC (talk) 10:39, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@FredTC: With respect, the reason I did not provide edit summaries is that most of my edits were relatively minor and did not substantially alter the overall content or direction of the article. In several cases, I was simply adding missing information to the infobox or making small adjustments that I considered straightforward and non-controversial.
If there are specific changes that you believe are problematic, I would appreciate it if they could be addressed individually with explanations. In my view, reverting all of the edits at once is not necessarily the most constructive approach, particularly when some of the changes are unrelated to the concerns being raised.
Regarding the images, I understand that different editors may have different opinions on what best represents Bangkok. However, I would like to clarify that my intention was not simply to replace daytime photographs with nighttime photographs. Rather, I attempted to reorganize the image selection to provide what I believe is a more coherent and representative overview of the city.
In fact, I reduced the number of images from the previous version. Before my edits, there were approximately eight or nine images, some of which were repetitive in subject matter or did not correspond particularly well to Bangkok's most recognizable landmarks and contemporary cityscape. My goal was to streamline the gallery while highlighting locations and views that are widely associated with the city today.
I also note that concerns have been raised about certain images appearing both in the infobox and elsewhere in the article. While I understand that some editors may prefer to avoid such repetition, there is no Wikipedia policy that prohibits an image from appearing in both places. Moreover, image duplication already existed in the article prior to my edits. Therefore, if duplication is considered an issue, I believe it would be useful to discuss which placement best serves readers rather than treating the mere existence of duplication as a reason for reverting changes.
As for the choice between daytime and nighttime images, I do not believe that one is inherently more encyclopedic than the other. The article is not titled "Bangkok at Night," but neither is it titled "Bangkok in Daylight." Both can be valid representations of the city when they are high-quality, clearly identifiable, and informative. Many city articles across Wikipedia use a mixture of daytime and nighttime photographs, depending on what best illustrates the subject.
My intention was to include images that reflect Bangkok's contemporary urban environment and its present-day appearance. Bangkok is currently classified as an Alpha world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC), reflecting its role as a major international metropolis. While such classifications should not dictate image selection, I believe the article should aim to present an accurate and up-to-date visual representation of the city as it exists today.
That said, I fully agree that image selection should ultimately be determined through consensus rather than individual preference. For that reason, I welcome discussion on this talk page and am open to alternative proposals if editors believe different images would better serve the article.
@Paul_012, since you have contributed extensively to this article, your opinion would be particularly valuable in helping establish a balanced consensus regarding image selection, image placement, and the overall presentation of the article.
I hope we can resolve this matter through discussion and arrive at a solution that improves the article for all readers. F4T4L1TyVincenT (talk) 16:58, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please write your own actual replies rather than AI garbage if you want to be considered seriously here. I agree with FredTC that the changes were not improvements. --Paul_012 (talk) 17:09, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
