Kutaraja

"Banda Aceh, also known as Kutaraja"... -- can anyone confirm this?

The Kadiri princes of the 12th century ruled over a land that was never free from rebellion. In 1222 Kertajaya was defeated by an adventurer, Angrok, and a new capital was located at Kutaraja, later renamed Singhasari, near to the harbours of east Java. The changed economic circumstances in the archipelago as a whole must now be taken into account, since they have an important bearing on the internal history of Java in the 13th and 14th centuries.

i.e.: it's on Java and is now known as Singhasari.

Looks like you're talking about two different places, but one of them, in Sumatra, NOT Java, does seem to have gone by Kotaja with various spellings before becoming Banda Aceh. Not sure when the change occured. Probably after independence from the Dutch.. OrganicEarth (talk) 06:55, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Governor house

Does this building still exist? Caption says it is Governor house, but there's another building in Kotaraja I've seen called that.. wondering where it was and if it exists and what it might be now? Thanks. OrganicEarth (talk) 06:55, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Undue weight for the anti Rohingya protest

The Indian ocean tsunami which devastated the city gets 1 sestentce in the middle. The 2023 Rohingya protest gets a whole paragraph. With the GAM insurgency not even mentioned Technetium 99m (talk) 11:58, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

I agree. The tsunami needs more coverage, there is no embarrassment in discussing natural disasters. If one feels this is an inappropriate place for such a discussion then a separate Wiki page should be written by someone qualified. Perhaps an external reference or two could be found as well.
