Origin?

- I believe it was from the US - IMDB confirms this. I have a vague memory of it being part of a rotating set of series running in the same time slot, but I could be mistaken (Like the early episodes of Columbo, MacMillan and Wife and McCloud). IMDB page has user comment saying it was part of The NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie rotating with Madigan and Cool Million, neither of which I remember much. "Banaczek" not so rare in Poland...

10%?
[edit]The article says Banacek collected 10% of the insured value of the recovered property, but I seem to recall that one of the points of contention with his rival Kirkland was that he actually demanded and got 15%, which she considered excessive. Needs clarification
[edit]When I'm typing this, the article contains "It alternated in its time slot with several other shows, but was the only one of them to last beyond its first season". The wheel-series contained a lot of other long-lived shows: "McMillan & Wife", "Columbo", "McCloud" come to mind. "McCloud" escaped to become its own regular weekly series. "Columbo" of course became a legend in pop culture, a slang term for equivalent to the former, and current British, "Sherlock" or "Sherlock Holmes". Research could possibly find more. If the statement I quoted is intended to mean that Banacek was the only show in the series that spanned more than one season, it's just objectively wrong. Maybe greater specifics could make the statement true, such that in some certain year ALL of the other shows in the rotation were those that lasted only one year. But I find that to be extremely doubtful. Actually, I just checked and it's totally wrong. "McCloud" was present in the first season, and lasted six seasons in the wheel and a seventh season as a stand-alone regular weekly series in another timeslot. That six-year run of McCloud would have to include the two seasons when Banacek was in the wheel rotation, according to the dates for Banacek listed in the article.2600:1700:6759:B000:105:CB95:4CA4:899B (talk) 21:07, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Christopher Lawrence Simpson
