Close paraphrasing
[edit]The Description section appears to be close paraphrasing of the Deccan Herald article, which I'm not even convinced is a reliable source. - Sitush (talk) 04:21, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
Potential source
[edit]A potential source, and far more reliable than those currently used, is pp 74-75 of Shiva's Waterfront Temples: Architects and Their Audiences in Medieval India (Subhashini Kaligotla, 2022, Yale University Press). - Sitush (talk) 04:27, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- It does seem like a reliable source, but I do not have access to it. If you do, feel free to add information from it to the article. AɭʋaKʰedək (talk) 18:38, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
Construction date
[edit]The cited source says Badami (the village or whatever) was the capital from 540 CE. It doesn't say that the fort was constructed beginning in that year & in fact mentions an inscription about the construction of it which has been dated to 543. Yes, the inscription could have been made after construction started but, equally, the Chalukyas may have been at Badami for a few years before building the fort.
I'm not sure how best to fix the wording in the article but it does need to be fixed. - Sitush (talk) 04:33, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- The cited source for date states the following in page 4 (the page I cited for the date of construction):
The Badami fort is another ancient fort built in 543 C.E. by Pulikesi I of Chalukya dynasty.
- The cited source does in fact state that the fort was constructed in 543 CE. AɭʋaKʰedək (talk) 07:05, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @AlvaKedak That wasn't what I was querying. The lead says the Fort was the seat from 540 but it seems more likely that Badami (the place, not the fort) was the seat from that year, with the fort being constructed there later. - Sitush (talk) 09:22, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- NB: we almost never need to put citations in infoboxes. Those should be summaries of information contained in the article body and should be cited in that body. - Sitush (talk) 09:27, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- I have replaced the citation in the lead with the one in the infobox and have changed the date in the lead from 540 to 543 as stated in the cited source. AɭʋaKʰedək (talk) 18:45, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
