[edit]Best result by a female runner is missing from the page. Lisa Amundsson from Sweden completed 33 laps at Älvdalen Backyard Ultra in 2018. The last two laps she ran solo only because she wanted to beat the Swedish record. - Female record holders have now been added. This is resolved. RoBroAU (talk) 00:15, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
In this case the last of the two laps does not count under the rules of the backyard ultra which only permits the winner to complete one additional lap after the assisting athlete has completed their final lap.
First female winner in not correct
[edit]In June 2018 Lisa Amundsson won Älvdalen Backyard Ultra. If she was the first female winner in a Backyard Ultra event ever or if someone else preceeded her I don't know. But she preceeded the woman who at the moment is posted as the first ever. In 2016 Nina Eibring shared the victory with Hasse Byrén at Örebro Backyard Ultra (21 loops) and Annika Nilrud shared the victory with Emir Halalkic at Lurs Backyard Ultra (30 loops). The first single female winner was Nina Eibring with 18 loops at Skövde Ultrafestival Backyard Ultra in July 2017. In the same year, Dena Carr won The Game Backyard Ultra in Texas with 22 loops. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Westis (talk • contribs) 06:27, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
Runner up = Assist ??
[edit]Every runner is for himself in the race, as it seems from the rules. Explanation for this particular term. Setenzatsu.2 (talk) 22:47, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- It's because it was realised that the distance a race goes for is ultimately determined by the last person to drop out.
- That if you want to go a certain distance (say for a world or national record) you need at least one other person who can go that far.
- It is recognition of the effort of that individual. That without them, the specific distance would not have been possible. Felixmeister (talk) 13:25, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Explanation and reference to the "assist" has been added. This is resolved. RoBroAU (talk) 00:16, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
Addressing flagged issues - June 2025
[edit]The flagged issues from June 2025 have been addressed to a reasonable extent. I propose that these can be removed. 1. Citations and verifications have been added to key facts and achievements. These are from reputable news agencies and running magazines. 2. It is not clear why this article has been flagged for general notability. However, a variety of sources and citations have been added. The backyard ultra format is becoming a more popular format with broader participation in events around the world. 3. It is not clear why this has been flagged for neutral point of view. However, the content has recently been consolidated and condensed. It is more factual. Records and milestones have been tabulated and referenced. RoBroAU (talk) 08:02, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- I've removed the pov and referencing tags as editing has been done and there's no dispute taking place here. KnowledgeIsPower9281 might want to weigh in on whether they think the current sourcing confirms notability or what's still needed if not. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 21:43, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
Yards??, misleading
[edit]In the world records table there is a column titled "Yards". It obviously refers to loops or hours. Why "yards"? I mean I get the meaning but yard usually refers to a unit of distance in races so it's misleading. Setenzatsu.2 (talk) 14:13, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
- "The distance of each loop (aka Yard) [...]".
- In a Backyard ultra contestants run loops in a "backyard". So loops are commonly referred to as yards within the community. Perhaps this meaning could be highlighted more prominently. Annodomino23 (talk) 14:24, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
Ascent/Climp per lap/loop/hour
[edit]Important metric; some backyard ultra races have 550feet of climb per lap so it's NOT irrelevant at which race a record was achieved. This is info that should be incorporated into BU articles, it's essential. In my country there is a BU race with 180ish m of ascent per lap and the record is just above 20 loops but there is also another race that has 20m of ascent per loop and the record is double. Setenzatsu.2 (talk) 14:22, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
- I added a elevation column to the Notable events section Annodomino23 (talk) 16:46, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
Questioning the purpose/future of the "Runner up "Assist"" column in the "Milestone performances - Women" table.
[edit]Currently, only one out of eight entries contains any information, which makes the table look incomplete, as if much of the data is missing. The single populated entry lists “Meg Eckert (USA) (92 yards),” which is inconsistent with the usual definition of an assist. (Sarah Perry did 95 yards, Megan Eckert did 92)
The underlying issue with women’s records is that women typically do not win in BU events they participate in. As a result, there is no single “last person eliminated before them” who could be listed as an assist.
For example, the current women’s world record belongs to Sarah Perry. She dropped out at yard 95, but nine men were still competing at that point. In a sense, all nine contributed to achievement, so they could all be considered her “assist.” Theoretically, a woman could also be the only female participant in a race.
However, listing multiple or ambiguous “assists” like this does not make much sense. Unless there are women only events in the future, or a woman wins an event outright and is the last remaining participant, this issue will always occur.
So the question is: Does it make sense to include this column at all, or is there a better way to handle the problem? Annodomino23 (talk) 15:46, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
Possible AI-generated text
[edit]Concerns have been raised previously about AI-generated content in this article. This is a procedural talk page section to discuss it. There is no need to ping me in response. Read WP:AISIGNS for more information for why this is tagged. Rationale given: Keepcarlandcarryon edits, see WP:AISIGNS Gnomingstuff (talk) 13:22, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
- I rewrote the section added by Keepcarlandcarryon on the 24 November 2025 and added some additional information that was stated in the source.
- If this section was the sole reason for the AI maintenance tag I propose it can now be removed from the article. Annodomino23 (talk) 20:16, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
