Contribution to Berlin Airlift

I think an advert by Avro that was claiming the 1,000,000th ton was carried by a York, was read as if that was the millionth ton carried by a York, rather than of the Berlin Blockade overall. That seems implausible - the article on the airlift says that the RAF only contributed 541,937 tons overall. I've corrected using figures from an official RAF publication as I've seen this "million tons" figure start to be repeated elsewhere Jamesd (talk) 13:12, 10 March 2025 (UTC)

The source was good but it had been misquoted, '...the millionth ton of freight was carried into Berlin by the York', not the millionth ton of freight carried by the York into Berlin. Without saying it was referring to the total carried by all aircraft types and nations by that date (February 19th, 1949). Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 14:45, 10 March 2025 (UTC)

Churchill and the Avro York

I've removed the statement that Churchill flew in an Avro York to the Yalta Conference because the official biography by Martin Gilbert states that he flew to this conference in a Skymaster (vol. vii of 'Winston S. Churchill'). If anyone has a citation for him having been flown in the York, I would be interested to know about it as I have tried to verify this without success.Churchill Archives Centre 14:07, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Accidents and Incidents section

Listing every and any accident and incident is not necessary and makes the list a completely overwrought affair. If no one objects, I will prune the list to only hull-losses and fatal accidents. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 04:28, 22 December 2010 (UTC).

The guide for inclusion allows fatal accidents and hull losses and I suspect nearly all of these are hull losses so really should be included. Perhaps just list the fatal accidents and split the rest into a sub-article. MilborneOne (talk) 08:32, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Trivia

re: "South African leader Jan Smuts also used a York as personal transport." I've heard that this particular York was sold to a private operator "Trek Airways" in the early fifties. Elper (talk) 22:08, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
