Your information on American Airlines being the start of ASAP is incorrect. Please read the information posted under TALK. I was present when both Captains Merillat and McClure briefed Captain Griffith on the success of their altitude awareness program. American did get their program approved first but they were not the birth of program. Nor was Griffith the father of ASAP. ~2026-17110-45 (talk) 22:03, 19 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

ASAP

[edit]

ASAP DID NOT START AT AMERICAN. IT STARTED AT USAIRWAYS. THE TWO PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE START OF ASAP WERE CAPTAINS MATTHEW MERILLAT USAIR AND CAPTAIN DON MCCLURE EAL. THE PROGRAM BEGAN WITH THE ALTITUDE AWARENESS PROGRAM DEVELOPED AT USAIRWAYS THROUGH THE VIOLATIONS COMMITTEE WHICH CAPTAIN MERILLAT WAS CHAIRMAN. THE ALTITUDE AWARENESS PROGAM WAS SO SUCCESSFUL IT WAS AGREED BY ALPA USAIR USAIRWAYS CO AND FAA TO EXPAND IT TO INCLUDE ALL POTENTIAL SAFETY PROBLEMS.BASED ON THE WORK DONE BY CAPTAIN MERILLAT AND MCCLURE ASAP WAS BORN. ~2026-17110-45 (talk) 22:37, 17 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
