Potential change opening paragraph

I am unsure whether "its main rival being the Liberal–National Coalition" is still a factual claim. Currently polling at the very least indicates there is skme level of ambiguity to the competitiveness of the LNC compared to PHON.

I propose that it be changed to "its main rival historically being the Liberal–National Coalition".

To be clear, I am not of the opinion thay the claim is nessasarily untrue, I simply think making such a definitive statement is unwarranted. I don't believe this is accurate yet because at the last election and in the current Parliamentary settings, the Liberal–National Coalition is still the second-largest party, so they are entitled be known as the opposition. I think that would be purely speculative and unless there is a more natural way to include opinion poll results, I'd steer clear of adding this information. labelling them as socialist

Simply incorrect. Objective 4 of the ALP Constitution states: "The Australian Labor Party is a democratic socialist party and has the objective of the democratic socialisation of industry, production, distribution and exchange, to the extent necessary to eliminate exploitation and other anti-social features in these fields." The words 'socialism' and 'socialist' don't appear anywhere else in the constitution or the party platform.

It is true that the socialist objective once described it as plainly socialist, however this was changed to more accurately reflect what the party had evolved into. Despite many in the leadership being Democratic Socialists and the current faction in power being democratic socialist it's hard to call it a "Democratic Socialist Party" Simply due to the fact it is a broad tent. At it's core it's a Trade Union Party run by Trade Unionists. With the current main power brokers being both from the Democratic socialist AND the Social democratic tradition.

I think if things trend how they are (Labor Left Governments pushing for nationalisation) We may see more notable sources stating the party is "Democratic Socialist" but for now it's more just a "Union" or "Social democratic" party due to the labels being broader and people being more willing to use those labels for the modern party. To be fair I wonder if I scarped all the articles post the CGT and Negative gearing changes if I could build a convincing argument that the current media does see them as socialist. TheGhostGum (talk) 05:48, 15 July 2026 (UTC)
