Duplication of 1 Aug

on 1 Aug we note "1834 - Slavery is abolished in the British Empire" but on 23 August we note "1833 - Slavery abolished in the British colonies". My understanding was that slavery was abolished throughout the Empire in 1833, I think some colonies (possibly Canada) abolished earlier but this wouldn't have been every colony in the Empire. Does anyone have more concrete info on what is the correct date? AllanHainey 10:53, 26 July 2005 (UTC)

unimporant people adding dates

One way street

I've removed the event:

• 1617 - In London, the first one-way street is established

because I can't find any evidence of this. Most of the results of a Google search for "first one way street" say that Albermarle Street in 1808 was the first in London (due to congestion caused by people flocking to hear science lectures from Sir Humphrey Davy apparently).

Mexican Independence

I removed the entry for 1821 stating that Mexico gained independence from Spain. The Treaty of Codoba was signed August 24, 1821, and the entry is duplicated on tomorrow's date.

1833 Slavery abolition

I have removed the following line from the article:

• 1833 - Slavery abolished in the British colonies.

This date is clearly wrong, as the legislation that abolished slavery in the British Empire, the Slavery Abolition Act 1833, was not approved until 28 August 1833. Even then, the actual abolition did not come into effect until 1 August 1834. I would suggest that a reliable source is required before this line can be restored to the article. Its been a long time since I've taken history, but i believe that this is the popularly cited date of the fall of the roman empire. I'm not sure though, so check it out before you add it

Jim Murphy

it seems a bit odd the fact that Jim Murphy was Minister of State for Europe is highlighted. Although he held this post post, it was not a cabinet office, and he went on to sit in the cabinet as Secretary of State for Scotland and was also later Labour's Scottish leader as well as being in the Shadow Cabinet. Siege of Jerusalem Date

Here in the list of events for August 23rd you list the Siege of Jerusalem of 1244. But in the article about the siege (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Jerusalem_(1244)) July 15th is given - so which one is correct? The entry on August 23 is for when the city surrendered to the Khwarazmiyya, not the start of the siege, which as you note was on July 15. One of the citations given ("The Knights Hospitaller" by Helen Nicholson) supports this entry. Kiwipete (talk) 08:26, 23 August 2025 (UTC)

Abdulmejid II. Was Never a Sultan
