Ascalon

[edit]

The article contradicts itself. Early on it says "However, there is no evidence that Atargatis was worshipped at Ascalon, and all iconographic evidence shows her as anthropomorphic." Later, "At her temples at Ascalon, Hierapolis Bambyce, and Edessa, there were fish ponds containing fish only her priests might touch." Why would she have a temple at Ascalon if she were not worshipped there? Also, Ctesias's "History of Persia" says "she threw herself into the lake and was changed as to the form of her body into a fish". This lake was specified as being in Ascalon.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:5B0:295B:6E18:B4CE:B8E6:8EA5:F5E9 (talk) 03:12, 15 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I was about to bring up the same issue. The article is confusing and contradictory Himeaimichu (talk) 23:01, 13 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I'm sorry then.

I am editor "Clemens Schmillen". Instead of blaming me mistakenly having undone your edit, please, open your eyes and have a look at the edition history where you can see that I performed some minor changes - improving links across the site - on 20 september 2023, i.e. one day BEFORE you edited the site fist time, on 21 september 2023. The edition history leaves clear, that I neither reverted your changes, nor mislabelled your changes as vandalism nor insulted. For your instruction: The term "Restored revision 1176224761 by <editor>" does NOT mean that <editor> undid your edit BUT RATHER that the site is resetted to the last revision<editor> before your edit. Stargateis???

[edit]

Twice in the article (and once in a note) the name "Stargateis" is used, presumably a variant form of Atargatis. But this form is never explained - whether it is an alternate transcription of the ancient spellings, or an alternate form found, or what?

Anyone know enough to explain, correct, or better incorporate this? Mastakos (talk) 04:54, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
